The current law of the Latin Church requires that you receive Holy Communion on the tongue. A number of pardons granted to the Episcopal Conferences, which have made requests to the Holy See, grant Holy Communion may be received, at the discretion of the Priest, also on hand, though never rule out the traditional way of receipt directly into the mouth. The General sort order of the Roman Missal, n. 161 states: "The communicant receives the sacrament in his mouth ...... or, in the places where it was allowed, on the hand, as he prefers."
It is therefore necessary to distinguish between the universal law and the subsequent pardons granted to individual Episcopal Conferences. It 'clear that beyond the manner of receiving Holy Communion (in the mouth or on the hand) the inner and outer attitude must always be inspired great respect and utmost devotion. It is, in fact, receive not just a sacred sign, but the Sacrament of the Body of the Lord truly, really and substantially (cf. Council of Trent) present under the species of bread and wine.
The two positions of the body in receiving Holy Communion (kneeling or standing) are also permitted. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (third edition), no. 160 states: "... The faithful should receive Communion kneeling or standing, as determined by the Episcopal Conference ...." The determination of gestures related to the reception of Holy Communion must be inferred from both the liturgical tradition, both the intimate nature of the dogma of the faith. In fact, greater understanding of dogma are those gestures that reflect its content more effectively. It 's so that the development of the doctrine of the Eucharist through the centuries is related to increasingly explicit signs of adoration to the great Mystery. In this perspective, you might recognize that receiving Holy Communion kneeling and in the mouth is a sign of the mystery all its own that you receive, and just more inclined to arouse the sense of worship and piety, while the reception of Holy Communion standing and in his hand, without constant vigilance on themselves, could lead to a relationship with the sacrament more superficial and less adorable.
